Youth urged to the Archbishop for a diocesan pastoral centre and more pastoral care for the youth, i.e. counseling service, program for drug addicts, career counseling, skill development program, effective chaplaincy in the youth organizations and movements, etc in an open discussion while participating in the 90th founding anniversary of Chittagong Catholic Archdiocese.
Chittagong is erected as a diocese on 25th May 1927. Every year the founding anniversary is being organized for lay leaders from Chittagong Cathedral & Jamalkhan parishes. This year the Archbishop of Chittagong Most Rev. Moses M. Costa, CSC met with 117 youth from Cathedral, Jamalkhan and Diang parishes to celebrate the 90th founding anniversary of the diocese.
The celebration took place today at the Cathedral parish hall room which is inaugurated by a
bible enthronement program and prayer service led by asst. pastor of Cathedral Rev. Sadhan Augustine Gregory. The acting pastor Rev. Regan Clement D’Costa delivered the welcoming speech followed by the self introduction session led by Sr. Zita Rema, SSMI.
The archbishop presented the key note presentation on the archdiocese’s history, elevation to the status of metropolitan archdiocese, parish statistics, pastoral vision, pastoral priorities and pastoral necessities. After the presentation the participating youth took part in spontaneous open discussion. Youth showed
keen interest to receive catechism on bible, catechism of the Catholic church, Vatican council documents and other dogmatic documents of the church. They also expressed to provide missionary service in hard to reach parishes. The archdiocesan pastoral coordinator Mr. Manik Willver D’Costa requested the youth to place their valuable proposal to the pastoral office of the diocese.
Calvary which is the only youth worship band in Bangladesh catholic church performed in the
anniversary with two worship and two secular rock songs. To the youth it was the most interesting part of the day.
The celebration came to an end by an Eucharistic celebration consecrated by the archbishop and con-celebrated by the vicar general Rev. Fr. Gordon Dias and Rev. Fr. Regan.
