A daylong seminar took place on Friday, 13 April 2018 in the archdiocesan training centre, Chittagong. 41 women gathered in the event aiming to receive Church teachings on ‘Dignity of women’.
Mr. Probal Deo who is the coordinator of archdiocesan Laity Commission and one of the
organizers depicted three objectives of the gathering: to give Church teachings on ‘Dignity of women’, to share international perspective of organizing women day, to discuss challenges faced by women at different sectors. He explained those during the opening session in which the Chittagong archbishop Most Rev. Moses Costa, CSC was present as the chief guest. The archbishop shared different stories from the bible talking about women and their roles.
Chittagong archdiocesan pastoral coordinator Mr. Manik Willver D’Costa presented keynote speech on ‘Women dignity in the Church: present situation and violence towards women’. He explained women in creation, women in divine plan, women in the perspective of Jesus Christ, women in Catholic teachings, different roles of women in human life & injustice happening towards women. He ended with raising some proposals for the society and women.
Caritas Chattogram gender officer Ms. Nargis Akhter presented paper on International
Women Day, it’s history and importance. Chittagong archdiocesan PMS director Sr. Zita Rema, SSMI conducted a very heart touching session in which women shared their everyday struggles at different levels of home or work. She arranged gifts for each participating women.
The seminar ended with a thanksgiving note from a
member of Laity Commission Mr. Patrick Gomes. Responsible for women desk of Laity Commission Ms. Moury Paroy moderated the daylong seminar.
