A discussion meeting was held in Caritas Chittagong regional office marking the ‘sacrifice & service mission 2016’ based on the theme ‘let’s mercy and be a person of mercy’. There were speakers from 4 major religious communities of Bangladesh who spoke on the importance of sacrifice & service and also increasing mercy & sharing with a view to establish peace and harmony in the world including Bangaldesh. Additional deputy commissioner Mr. Abdul Jalil was the chief guest of the program and Bishop of Chittagong Diocese, Most Rev Moses Costa was the inaugurator.

In the begining of the ceremony Mr. James Gomes, regional director of Caritas Chittagong made a welcoming speech focusing on the caritas day and the theme. The invited guest shared from their respective religious views- how to be a man of mercy through merciful services. Present individualism concept of the world is creating discrimination among the rich and poor. They said selfishness, violence and adversity against each other is increasing rapidly. People do not have affection and respect for others anymore. To overcome these social crisis we all need to be merciful. The chief guest said that only religious harmony and love can build a beautiful society.

In the second part of the ceremony 29 staff of Caritas was presented award for their long term services. It is to be noted that ‘sacrifice & service mission’ is one of the educative and awareness building activity of Caritas Bangladesh which is being continued since 1980. Like every year to inspire the common citizens for helping the helpless and poor people this mission will be continued till April 10th starting from 10th February.
