On 500 years of Jubilee Chittagong Archdiocese received a new congregation of priests called SVD fathers. Fr. Cyprian Pinto and Fr. Mariusz Pacula is the two SVD priests who are assigned in charge of Jamalkhan parish though Fr. Mariusz Pacula is presently residing in Banani Major Seminari, Dhaka to learn Bengali language.
Catholic faith in Chittagong is spreading as new areas are being reached with the light of gospel. Unfortunately the Archdiocese is dry in vocation resulting shortage of priests. Many areas of Chittagong including both plane land and hill tracts still remains out of the pastoral activities. So, the arrival of a new congregation is really a blessing for the Archdiocese.
The two SVD fathers came to Bangladesh from India on 4 January 2018. The installation ceremony in Jamalkhan parish was held on 15 January 2018 through a Holy Eucharistic celebrated by the Archbishop of Chittagong Most Rev. Moses M. Costa, csc. It was the feast day of Saint Arnold who is the patron saint of SVD fathers. Fr. Maxim, Provincial of Tripura province, India was present in this installation ceremony. Many diocesan priests and approximately 100 laity participated in the ceremony.
From the year 2006-2017 Oblate fathers were in charge of Jamalkhan parish. Presently Oblate Fathers are in charge of two parishes in CHT- Lama & Alikadam.
