The Annual Pastoral Assembly of the Archdiocese of Chattogram has been successfully concluded. The central theme of this year’s assembly was “My soul magnifies the Lord” (Luke 1:46). A total of 163 participants, including priests and representatives from various parishes, took part in this significant gathering. Rich in deep discussion, spiritual reflection, and strategic planning, the assembly played a vital role in shaping the future direction of the pastoral mission.
The inaugural session began with a welcome dance, the enthronement of the Bible, a brief prayer, and introductions of parish representatives. The welcome address was delivered by Father Terence Rodrigues, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Chattogram. Subsequently, His Grace Archbishop Lawrence Subrata Howlader, CSC, formally inaugurated the assembly with his keynote address.
During the second session, a consolidated summary of parish reports was presented, followed by an open discussion. The session was moderated by Mr. Flavian D’Costa. Participants shared their experiences, challenges, and prospects in implementing the previous year’s pastoral plan under the theme “The Lord is my shepherd” (Psalm 23:1) across their respective parishes.
The day concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at the Cathedral Church, presided over by Father Rupak Isaac Rosario.
The third session, held on January 16, was regarded as the core session of the assembly. During this session, Archbishop Subrata presented the Pastoral Theme for the year 2026 for the Archdiocese of Chattogram. The session was moderated by Sister Mamata Palma, LHC. This was followed by in-depth reflection and thematic discussions, where priests, sisters, and lay faithful shared their personal insights and reflections.
Subsequent sessions featured group-based reflections and fraternal activities. Participants were given the opportunity to engage more deeply with the pastoral theme in light of their roles and experiences within the Church. A special group workshop was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Micky Paul Gonsalves, Director of Program and Development of the Archdiocese of Chattogram.
Participants were divided into seven groups: Cathedral, Jamal Khan, Pahartali and Diang, Noakhali and Lakshmipur, Thanchi and Balipara, Bandarban, Alikadam and Lama, Khagrachhari and Rangamati. Following the workshops, group reports were presented and discussed in a plenary session. One representative from each group shared key insights. This session is moderated by Ms. Ayannah Gonsalves.
On the final day, January 18, summaries of the group workshop reports were presented, followed by general discussion and the identification of pastoral priorities. A plan for an Archdiocesan Family Survey was also presented and discussed. The session was moderated by Mr. Micky Paul Gonsalves.
