Honourable State Minister, Ministry of Social Welfare breathed his last at 4.00 am today in Holy Family Hospital, Mumbai, India. He was undergoing lungs treatment there. Four months back he returned from Singapore having same treatment. Recently he is taken to Mumbai when he again fall sick.

Promode Mankin, MP is born on 18th April 1939 in Ramnagar village under Durgapur Upazilla in Netrokona district. He is from a Catholic Garo (ethnic race) family. His parents are late Megha Toju and Hridoy Cecilia Mankin. Promode Mankin is 5th among 8 siblings.

Promode Mankin obtained his bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree from Notre Dame College, Dhaka on 1963. In 1968 he has successfully completed bachelor of education (B.Ed.) degree from Mymensingh Teachers’ Training College and in 1982 bachelor of law (L.L.B.) from Mymensingh Law College.

Late Promode Mankin started his career as a teacher, later moved to the law profession and then NGO. He served as Regional Director of Caritas Mymensingh region from 1987 to 1990. He became politician in 1991 by joining Bangladesh Awame League. He was the member of Mymensingh District Awami League and President of Haluaghat Upazilla Awame League. Promode Mankin was elected member of parliament four times in 1991, 2001, 2008 and 2013. He was appointed State Minister of Ministry of Cultural Affairs in 2009 and State Minister of Ministry of Social Welfare in 2012.
