One hundred and two children of Shitolpur migrant community gathered in a rented chapel on 12 November 2022 to have a daylong gathering of the Missionary Childhood Society. Sr Zita Rema SSMI, the Archdiocesan PSM Director, as well as the Coordinator of the Diocesan Migrants and Itinerant Desk organized the gathering. Shitolpur is an area under Pahartoli Quasi Parish where around 1500 Catholics have been residing and migrated from the northeastern Mymensingh Diocese. The migrants living here are mainly day labourers occupying the World’s largest shipbreaking yard, local oxygen cylinder companies and beauty parlours.
The theme of the program was ‘Children in the Synodal Church: Their communion, participation, and mission’. Fr Terence Rodrigues, the parish pastor of Pahartoli was the keynote speaker. After his talk, the children participated in games and quiz competitions. The gathering was closed with a Eucharistic celebration.
