Doctor Brother Herald Bijoy Rodrigues, a Catholic religious brother of Congregation of Holy Cross, St. Joseph’s Province Bangladesh breathed his last around 11.15 am today at the age of 62. Brother had been suffering from pancreatic cancer which was diagnosed in October 2019. He was given treatment at Apollo Hospital, Delhi, India. He breathed his last at the Ajgar Ali Hospital, Old Dhaka.
A mass took place at 6.00 pm today at St. Joseph’s Industrial Trade School (widely knows as Narinda Trade School), Shah Saheb Lane, Narinda, Dhaka. Following the government directives, only 50 selected persons attended the mass. Apostolic Nuncio to Bangladesh, His Excellency, Archbishop George Kocherry has consecrated the mass. The funeral mass will take place tomorrow at 10.00 am at the same place and will be attended by 50 selected persons. Archbishop of Dhaka, His Eminence, Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario, CSC will preside over the mass. Then Brother Bijoy will be buried at the Wari Christian Cemetery, Narinda, Dhaka.
Brother Bijoy Rodrigues was born on 7 July 1958 at Vincent Master Bari, Nagori, Dhaka. His parents are Night Vincent Rodrigues and Amelia Rodrigues. Brother Bijoy made his first profession at the Congregation of Holy Cross on 20 January 1978 and made the final profession on 31 December 1984.
Brother Bijoy Rodrigues, CSC is countrywide very well-known for his excellent and enormous contribution to the ministry of Catholic Education through the CBCB Education Commission and later the Education Board Trust. Besides his teaching career, he was also involved in numerous Church movements and organizations which connected him with many people across the country. Brother Bijoy also served with Caritas Bangladesh in various capacities.
