A new chapter in the spiritual life of the Christian community of Chattogram began today with the grand inauguration of St. Francis Xavier Church, located in Boalkhali upazila under in Chattogram District. The much-anticipated opening ceremony drew hundreds of local residents, clergy, and dignitaries, all gathered to witness the first service in the beautiful new church.
The church, which features modern architectural elements alongside traditional design, promises to be a place of worship, community, and support for all. The service was led by Archbishop Lawrence Subrato Howlader, CSC, who emphasized the church’s mission to serve as a welcoming space for all people, regardless of background.
“This church is not just a building,” Archbishop Subrato said during his sermon, “but a sanctuary where love, faith, and hope will continue to grow, inspiring all those who walk through these doors.”
Leaders of the church expressed excitement about its role in strengthening community ties and providing support to local charities and families in need. After the eucharistic there was a cultural night followed by a fellowship dinner where all the faithful in St. Francis Xavier Ward participated along with the distinguished guests.
