On September 24, 2024, Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain, Honorable Adviser, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Government of Peoples Republic of Bangladesh paid a courtesy visit to the Cathedral of Our Lady fo the Holy Rosary, Chattogram. He visited the church and adjacent historical graveyard. Then he met the Christian community of Chattogram at the Archbishop’s House conference hall. Honorable Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Ms. Farida Khanom, the Vicar General of the Chattogram Catholic Archdiocese, Fr. Terence Rodrigues, the Secretary of the Christian Welfare Trust, Mr. Nirmal Rozario, the Divisional Director of the Islamic Foundation, Chattogram, Mr. Borhanuddin, as well as pastors of different Churches, heads of Catholic service organizations, and Christian leaders from Chattogram were also present in the program.
During the meeting, the Christian leaders presented their expectations to the interim government, highlighting key issues such as an official holiday on Easter Sunday, countering false propaganda against missionary organizations, and ensuring the rightful civic rights of Christians to promote communal harmony. Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain stated that Bangladesh is a secular nation and that the interim government is committed to ensuring the rightful rights of all its citizens. He urged the Christian leaders to assist the interim government in rebuilding the country by organizing regular interfaith dialogues and continuing their service to the poor. The honorable adviser then visited Father Boudreau’s Medical Centre and left the Church.
