Yesterday, 14th March 2017 a training for ‘Karbaris’ started in Caritas regional training centre in Chittagong. ‘Karbaris’ are the leaders of villages in Chittagong hill tracts area which consists of 3 civil districts namely Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachori. These leaders are recognised as per the CHT Hill Districts Law 66(1) of Bangladesh.

Some 25 selected karbaris from Catholic dominated CHT villages are called for a training by the Chittagong archdiocesan pastoral service team in Chittagong to discuss on some life topics in CHT. The event is inaugurated yesterday with solemn Eucharistic celebration by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Chittagong His Grace Moses M. Costa, CSC. Parish priest of Sacred Heart Parish of Lama Rev. Samar Dango, OMI con-celebrated with the archbishop.

participants by Mr. Manik Willver D’Costa who is the archdiocesan pastoral coordinator. Archbishop of Chittagong His Grace Moses M. Costa, CSC presented historical, administrative,  statistical and pastoral notes of the archdiocese.

In the afternoon karbaris participated in open discussion on various topics of general health, root level primary education, economic development, organisational development, faith formation, etc. Mr. Remon Asam- Program Officer of ICDP-CHT (Caritas), Mr. Subash Tripura- Asst. ‘Economic development in the perspective of Chittagong Hill Tracts’ followed by a wonderful open sharing of the karbari participants. The first official day ended by the Eucharistic celebration by Chittagong archdiocesan financial administrator Rev. Pankaj Pereira.
