Young Christian Students is a movement for teenagers which enable them to practice the catholic action- ‘see-judge-act’. And through the process of ‘see-judge-act’ every human being becomes enlightened and therefore enlightens the society. With a view to strengthen this movement in the diocese of Chittagong an YCS animators training was organized by the youth commission of Chittagong in the cathedral parish on 30 June- 02 July. 42 animators from 11 parishes joined this training program.
The training program was launched with an opening mass offered by the vicar general of the diocese Rev. Fr. Gordon Dias on 30th June evening. After dinner Youth coordinator of Chittagong Diocese Bro. Rinku L. Costa, csc welcomed all in the training program followed by the inauguration speech by the ordinary of the diocese Most Rev. Bishop Moses M. Costa, csc. He said that YCS must be revived with a view to revive the Christians. We, the catholic people follow YCS method in every sphere of life so it is a very important responsibility for the animators to help the teenagers understand the true meaning of YCS.
There were many sessions in the training program focusing in the YCS history, method and the responsibility of the YCS animators. Sr. Runu Mrong, csc from the Episcopal commission of youth shared a nice presentation with the participants on the responsibility of an animator. It was clear in her presentation that a teenager needs attention, care and most of all a friendly behavior. Mr. Manik Willver D’Costa presented paper on the YCS methodology. He is the author of the booklet on how to conduct a cell meeting published by the Episcopal Youth Commission.
Moreover, there were present in the training- Ms. Jenevi Rozario, Mr. Soshi Peris and Ms. Jerry Hagidok from national YCS comity. They discussed on some tips for the YCS animators and how to overcome the challenges of maintaining an YCS cell. There was also group work, open discussion, a cultural program, a lots of action songs, demo cell meeting etc. in the training program. The program came to an end with a closing mass on 2nd July offered by the youth coordinator of Chittagong hill tracts- Fr. Bikash Rebeiro csc followed by a thanksgiving ceremony presided by Bro. Rinku L. Costa, csc
