Caritas Chattogram Region, under their Establishing Child protection Mechanism in Schools (ECPM) project, held a two-day seminar and training program focused on child protection, climate change, and moral values for teachers. The event took place on May 24th and 25th, 2024, at the Archbishop House Auditorium in Patherghata, Chattogram. Archdiocesan Commission for Peace and Justice and World Vision Bangladesh facilitated the seminar and training.
His Grace Most Rev. Lawrence Subrata Howlader, CSC, Archbishop of the Chattogram Metropolitan Archdiocese, was present as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony. Other distinguished guests included Rev. Father Terence Rodrigues, Vicar General of the Chattogram Archdiocese; Rev. Father Dr. Liton Hubert Gomes, Coordinator of the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace (CBCB); Sr. Mary Topoti, SMRA, Headmaster, St. Xavier School, Pahartoli, Chattogram, Mr. Marcel Ratan Guda, Regional Director of Caritas Chattogram Region; Mr. Manik Wilver D’Costa, Pastoral Coordinator of the Chattogram Archdiocese; and Mr. Christopher Quiah, Program Officer for World Vision Chattogram.
70 teachers and NGO representatives participated in the two-day seminar and training.
Day One: Seminar
Ecological & Climate Change Impact/Adaptation in Bangladesh: This session likely focused on the challenges and potential solutions Bangladesh faces due to climate change. It was facilitated by Rev. Father Dr. Liton Hubert Gomes, Coordinator, ECJ&P, CBCB.
Laudato Si’ Week 2024: This session was facilitated by Rev. Father Terence Rodrigues, Vicar General of Chattogram Archdiocese and the topic likely explored Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, which emphasizes environmental stewardship and care for creation.
Child Protection and Safeguarding: This session aimed to equip participants with knowledge and skills to protect children from harm and facilitated by Mr. Daniel Sipu Gomes.
Inter-Religious Behavior: Mr. Ambrose Gomes was facilitated this session and topic was focused on promoting understanding and respect between different faiths.
Mother and Child Health Care: This session aimed to educate participants on best practices for maternal and child health, facilitated by Mr. Christopher Quiah.
Day Two: Training
Good or Bad Impact of Mobile Use at
Family Level: The session was facilitated by Mr. Manik Willver D’Costa, and the session likely explored the positive and negative aspects of mobile phone use within families.
Moral Values for Teachers: This training focused on equipping teachers with strategies to instill moral values in their students. The session was facilitated by Mr. Kazi Raihan Jamil.
The two-day seminar and training concluded with a closing ceremony with the presence of senior trainer Mr. Kazi Raihan Jamil, Mr. Daniel Sipu Gomes, Coordinator of the Chattogram Archdiocesan Commission for Justice and Peace, Mr. Christopher Quiah, Program Officer, World Vision Chattogram and Sr. Mary Topoti, SMRA. Mr. Daniel Sipu Gomes delivered the closing remarks.
